Samprati Basant is the Founder and Managing Partner of Panasian IP Services, bringing over 15 years of professional experience in intellectual property rights with a unique blend of expertise spanning academia, scientific research, and legal practice. He is a Registered Patent Agent with the Indian Patent Office and a qualified Advocate, known for his multidisciplinary proficiency across life sciences, engineering, and law.

Samprati holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology and has earned two Master’s degrees—one in Botany and another in Biotechnology. In addition, he holds a Post M.Sc. Diploma in IPR, Biosafety, and Regulatory Affairs, an Advanced Diploma in Animal Biotechnology, and a professional Law degree (LL.B.). He has also successfully qualified CSIR NET and GATE, demonstrating his strong command of scientific fundamentals and research aptitude.

He began his career in academia and research, serving as a faculty member for B.Tech, M.Tech, and M.Sc. students, and later as a research fellow at IIT Guwahati, where he worked on interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of chemical engineering and biotechnology. This strong academic and research background empowers him to draft and prosecute technically robust patent applications across domains such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, mechanical systems, civil infrastructure, electronics, and software.

Before founding Panasian IP Services in 2017, Samprati gained valuable experience at IP law firms, including Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan, RK Dewan & Co., and Kan & Krishme, where he handled patent drafting, prosecution, oppositions, and international filings for a broad spectrum of clients ranging from startups and universities to multinational corporations.

At Panasian IP Services, he leads a dedicated team offering end-to-end IP solutions, including patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyrights, and Geographical Indications (GIs). His work spans PCT filings, national phase entries, FTO (freedom-to-operate) analyses, IP due diligence, and commercialization strategies. He is also deeply engaged in protecting traditional knowledge through GI filings, working closely with artisan groups and producer communities to safeguard India’s regional heritage.

Samprati is a frequent speaker at IPR awareness programs, training workshops, and seminars conducted in collaboration with universities, R&D centers, and incubators across India. He is an active member of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) and the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) and is a regular participant in global IP conferences such as the AIPPI World Congress and APAA Annual Meetings, promoting international collaboration and thought leadership in IP law.
